Dana Haff

Dana Haff has over 20 years of service in law enforcement. He started working for the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office as a Custody Deputy and later joined the NYS Department of Corrections. In 2005, he joined the Ithaca City Police Department where he continues to serve. He started working all shifts as a patrol officer, but quickly found his calling was traffic enforcement. In 2008, he was named the Tompkins County Large Agency DWI Officer of the year. In 2011, he became certified as a Crash Reconstructionist through Northwestern University, working alongside the Traffic Unit investigating fatal crashes. In 2016, he began his assignment in the Traffic Unit.

Dana began teaching officers first as a field training officer, then in 2014, he became a NYS certified instructor. In 2015, he was selected to attend DOT Level I Inspector, the first in the agency's history. Dana attended the NYS Police Academy for 80 hours of classroom instruction and testing. Once that was completed, he conducted 80 hours of in the field inspections under the supervision of the NYS DOT.

Dana developed and instructed a Distracted Driving Awareness program that was implemented in Ithaca, NY. He was also selected to present at the NHTSA Region 3 seminar in Providence, RI on the development, and implementation of the program. In 2019, he also began instructing officers statewide for the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in CMV Awareness Training.
